Wil is one of Future8’s industry expert judges who will be judging the Online Video Category! As the Director of Digital for Condé Nast UK, which publishes iconic brands including Vogue, GQ and WIRED, Wil is responsible for publishing tablet and smartphone editions of the magazines, as well as dedicated web presences. We asked Wil: What will you be looking for in a winning Future8 entry?

I will be looking for something that is genuinely different. In a world of infinite choice, it’s surprising how often we see material that is derivative or slightly samey – I love to see something new and original.”

Could you give us an example?

“My favourite online video in the entire world is Narwhals.  Truly different, and damn if anybody has done anything that eclipses it since.”

“Understand your audience – know what they are looking for, and deliver something that gives them what they want, but also surprises them with something they didn’t know they wanted!”
